Monthly Contact Lenses
Monthly disposable contacts are the most commonly used contact lenses and also some of the cheapest. They are designed for daily use (removed before bed and stored in solution overnight) and are replaced every four weeks. Some silicone hydrogel contact lenses can be worn during sleep, due to high oxygen permeability, only with the eye care practitioner's permission.Monthly contact lenses are currently the most common types of contacts.
They’re popular because of their price, wide selection and great qualities – even towards the end of their durability they are still flexible and resistant against debris accumulation. Monthly contact lenses are ideal for short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism correction.
Normally they should be taken out in the evenings, put in a cleaning solution and replaced after 30 days. Some of them, however (like the Biofinity brand), can be used continuously and you can keep them on your eyes day and night for 7 days without having to clean them.
What is a monthly contact lens?
Simply put, monthly contacts are designed for everyday use and once every 30 days you have to throw them away and put on a new pair.
What vision problems do monthly contact lenses correct?
- Myopia: Myopia or else short-sightedness makes focusing on distant objects difficult. Myopic people can clearly see objects nearby but not those far away.
- Hyperopia: Hyperopia or long-sightedness causes close objects to appear blurry. In contrast to myopia, hyperopia affects the vision of close objects.
- Astigmatism: Astigmatism is an eye condition where the cornea is not perfectly round, so it cannot focus light evenly onto the retina located in the back of the eye. Astigmatism can be treated with toric contact lenses.
- Presbyopia: Presbyopia is caused by the ageing process. As we get older, our eyes find it harder to focus on objects at different distances. Multifocal contact lenses can correct presbyopia.
Why use monthly contact lenses?
Monthly lenses are a great choice for regular contact lens wearers as they provide an entire month's wear from just one pair. All in all, they offer better value for money than daily contacts but they need every day cleaning and storing in a case with contact lens solution.
Can you sleep in your monthly contact lenses?
You can't sleep with these lenses unless they are specifically designed to like the Air Optix Night & Day or Biofinity but you should always consult with your doctor whether sleeping with contact lenses is good for you or not.
How much do monthly contact lenses cost?
The price of monthly contact lenses starts at £11.49 (Biofinity) to £11.99 (Air Optix Aqua) per box of 3 contacts which means you are good to go for one month and one eye.
