Toric contact lenses
Just like there are glasses for astigmatism, there are also lenses for this condition and they are called toric contact lenses. With their help it is possible to correct irregular curvature of the cornea which causes light to fall unevenly on the retina and which results in blurry vision.
Apart from the cylinder deviation (astigmatism), toric contact lenses also correct other eye defects that can accompany astigmatism – short-sightedness or long-sightedness. "Toric lenses or else contact lenses for astigmatism, are used just like any other contacts, with the same application and the same care".
How to choose astigmatic contact lenses?
Apart from dioptres and curvature, you also have to put in two other parameters – cylinder (cyl) and axis (ax). Toric contacts are available for any duration of use – the most common being monthlies and bi-weeklies or fortnightlies. They are monofocal which means they only have a single focus.
