Presbyopia is the inability of the eye to focus at the normal reading distance – we are talking about the age of emerging farsightedness. It is a refractive defect, occurring usually after the age of 40, due to loss of the elasticity of the lens. Presbyopia affects everyone and there is no known prevention.
A common symptom is eyestrain or headache when doing close work.
