Vision is visual acuity. It is the ability of the eye to identify the two closest points lying as two separate objects. Visual acuity of the eye is determined by its resolution and its refractive status.

Distant vision is investigated using optotypes at a distance of 5 or 6 meters. Visual acuity at near is determined to near vision acuity, ie. the reading distance of 40 cm.
