Tear secretion
Tear secretion is glandular activity, consisting of a secretion of substances that are necessary for the function of the eye.
- Basal tear secretion – resting constant tear secretion, which contributes to the lacrimal gland and accessory lacrimal gland principal.
- Reflex tear secretion – (in case of irritation of the cornea and conjunctiva, cough, effects of wind chill, strong lighting retina or emotional excitment – crying, laughing). It is mainly provided by the secretion of the lacrimal gland. The reflex secretion is the stimulation of the trigeminal nerve.
