Lysozyme

Tears in their composition contain enzyme lysozyme, which has bactericidal effects (i.e. it kills bacteria). This reduces the risk of infection in the eye. Without this enzyme, eyes can very easily become subject to various diseases.

Lysozyme represents 25% of all proteins found in tears. It is produced in the lacrimal gland and glands of the conjunctiva.
