Lubrication of contact lenses
The need for lubrication (moisturising) of contact lenses is variable. Depending on the chemical composition of the contact lens material, its thickness, composition and the amount of tear film of the user, its current condition and surrounding environment.
The objective of lubrication is to avoid abrasion and minimise any feeling of a foreign body, burning, cutting and eye tiredness. A lubricating solution may consist of a citrate buffer, edetate disodium, and polidroniumchlorid (Polyquad).
