Hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronate)
Hyaluronic acid is a natural part of the human body. It has amazing water binding qualities, ideal for dry eye syndrome treatment. Combining eye drops with hyaluronic acid is one of the most common ways to deal with dry eye syndrome. Thanks to its ability to absorb a large amount of water, the acid moisturises both cornea and conjunctiva and is being used as an eye lubricant. During the lubricating process, high viscosity of the eye drops leads to the formation of a stabilised tear film, all without worsening the quality of vision. Hyaluronic acid clings to the surface of the eye and stays on it for a long time which means it rarely needs reapplication. Hyaluronic acid creates a protective film on the eye that subsides friction between the eye lid and the cornea which has beneficial effects on irritated and dry eyes.
