Deposits

Deposits on contact lenses are invisible to the human eye and are the most common cause of inflammation.

  • Tear film forms protein deposits on contact lenses – see proteins.
  • At low contact lens hygiene or using contaminated solutions, there are bacterial and fungal sediments.
  • When inorganic substances derived from tears, disinfectant and dust particles accumulate on the surface of contact lenses, these are inorganic deposits (calcium, magnesium).
