Corneal dystrophy
This is an inherited disease of the cornea.
Cause of dystrophy is decreased adhesion of the corneal epithelium to the base membrane. The patient repeatedly wakes up with severe stinging and biting eye pain, which subsides within a few hours.
Dystrophy affects the corneal endothelium. Dystrophy usually occurs after the age of 50 gradually increasing in corneal edema. This is a hereditary degenerative disorder.
Sometimes dystrophy and wearing contact lenses are absolutely contraindicated.
