The radical peroxide cleaning system is undoubtedly the most efficient and healthiest way to remove organic deposits from contact lenses. The principle consists of releasing reactive oxygen, which reacts with the macromolecules of the coating and breaks them into small, water-soluble pieces that are subsequently rinsed. A 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide is usually used.
It is, however, very dangerous for the eye to rinse the contact lens rinse with a non-neutralised peroxide solution. Therefore, read the package insert of the peroxide solutions carefully before using them and ask your ophthalmologist or optician.
